The respect to historical relics shows our understanding of cultural diversity and the relativity of values. That helps us to be liberated from the myth of material and homogenous society, which thereby enables us to have higher sensitivity, tolerance, and grander vision to rethink the so-called values. The universal principle for the renovation of historical buildings is in conflict with the initial intention for the work. Therefore, the discussion on the restoration and reutilization of the buildings shall not be the privilege owned by a certain group of people nor shall be based solely on one theory. It, instead, shall be a process of a society’s self-understanding and exploration. This paper, through the case study method, examined the preservation and reutilization of historical buildings in Taiwan and found out a lack in the information to be applied as well as room for improvement in relevant work. It is suggested that the value involved in the space of historical buildings can be re-explored from a more practical perspective, for the execution of relevant work to achieve more participation from the general public as well as more comprehensive and integrated results. 曾文哲 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 117 zh-TW
