Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 企業管理學系碩士班 === 98 === Since the wafer’s diameter has completed from 6, 8, 12 till 18 inches and the semiconductor manufacturing technology has also completed 45 nm, the semiconductor assembly and test industry in Taiwan which sometimes has to spend more than one to ten million dollars to make just one equipment is in the face of making greater-precision equipments and having better key technologies pressure. Inevitably, in the future, there must be more tough unanticipated issues. According to Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA), the output value of the semiconductor assembly and test industry in Taiwan was about 329,900 million among the total IC industry’s output value which is about 1,485,600 million in 2007, and 318,200 million among 1,374,300 million in 2008. Although TSIA estimated the global semiconductor industry will turn down 20~30 % due to the global financial crisis in 2009, it has still been a very important industry in Taiwan for more ten years. Hence, in this study, we are mainly talking about the market structure, vendor behavior, and operational performance in the semiconductor assembly and test industry; also, offer some related recommendations to the enterprise and the government. From the foregoing, the main purpose of this study will be talking over the present-stage condition of the semiconductor assembly and test; and analyze the market structure, vendor behavior, and operational performance in the semiconductor assembly and test industry market in Taiwan by using the Mason-Bain model from Industry Economics. First of all, we will judge the market concentration by using the 4-firm Concentration ratio and the Herfindahl Hirschman Index. Second, approach the vendor behavior and competitive strategy in this industry by using SWOT, 4P, and Michael Porter's Five Forces Model. Third, for talking over the present-stage management condition of the semiconductor assembly and test in Taiwan, from the financial point of view, we will measure the performance changes by using the Performance Indicators. Last, you will also get to understand the enterprise’s business policy, competitiveness, and development in this industry from the case study research and some interviews with experts In this study, we found out some results:Frist, According to the Market Concentration index in the semiconductor assembly and test industry in Taiwan and, the market belongs to high concentration one and it is in a maintenance-level trend. Second, from the vendor behaviors study, we also find out the short-term development of the semiconductor assembly and test industry in Taiwan will be focused on high-level products for itself, then extend the market to China for the low-level or middle-level product. Third, the turnover ratio of the vendors of the semiconductor assembly and test in 2001~2008 in Taiwan had grown up 330%, however, the financial crisis resulted in a dramatic recession in 2008. Forth, among the biggest 4 enterprises in the semiconductor assembly and test industry in Taiwan , Powertech Technology Inc.(PTI) has the best performance, then Siliconware Precision Industries Co. (SPIL), King Yuan Electronics Co.(KYEC), and ASE Group. Last, in the individual study, KYEC is also well-known as a global enterprise of professional IC test technology; of course, their products can always meet all the needs from customers.
