This retrospective sampling employed in this study was limited to one teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. Data were collected from 15 pregnant and postpartum women diagnosed with urinary incontinence using a semi-structured interview guide. Tape-recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim. Data contents was analyzed using the method of Miles and Huberman (1994). The Transtheoretical Model for behavioral change provided the framework for analysis and categorization staging. Results identified 16 themes and 38 sub-themes related to the behavioral change following pelvic muscle exercises in incontinence pregnant and postpartum women. Secondary analysis further found various deterring and promoting factors that influenced the willingness of pregnant and postpartum women to engage in pelvic muscle exercise. We hope that our results can assist medical-nursing staff to better empathize with the subjective feelings of pregnant and postpartum women suffering from incontinence and understand their particular features and experience while doing pelvic muscle exercises. Which allow medical-nursing staff to deliver appropriate intervention measures for patients at different behavioral stages in order to help facilitate proper pelvic muscle exercises. It is further hoped that this research may be helpful in future healthcare instruction and care. J. T. Lee 李絳桃 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 150
