In the cell viability experiment, the methanolic and ethyl acetate crude extracts showed the cytotoxic efficacy against human lung carcinoma cell line (A549) at 30 μg/ml. The viable percent of A549 treated with methanolic crude extract and ethyl acetate layer were 66.23 % and 55.68 %, separately. The dried whole plant of M. platyclada (6 Kg) were shattered, then extracted with methanol and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reducing pressure to give dark brown extract at last. The crude extract was partitioned with water, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol, separately. All layers were chromatographed on column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and ecrystallized to afford 40 compounds. Among them, 32 compounds were determined their structures by spectral analysis and compared with literature data. The major components of M. platyclada were flavonols. Y. L.
