We identified a temperature-sensitive mutant manna, which produced dorsalized embryos and eggshell. The further analysis showed that manna is required for ventral follicle cells, but not for dorsal follicle cells. Pipe expression was not affected in manna mutant cells, suggesting that manna is not involved in the Egfr signal transduction, which suppresses pipe expression. From complementation test, we learned that cbl mutant complemented the manna mutant. It indicationg manna and cbl are affecting different gene. However, when we overexpressed Cbl long-form in manna mutant background, the overexpression of Cbl long-form could rescue the dorsalized phenotype of embryos and eggshell in the manna mutant, revealing that manna may have interactions with cbl. We also discovered that the manna homozygous mutant has shorter lifespan than that of wild type. Therefore, manna is not only essential for correct embryo development, but also affects the lifespan of Drosophila. Here, I have mapped manna to a 270 kb region by complementation test with deficiencies on the chromosome 3 left arm.
