Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 工業設計學系 === 98 === The salient point of this research was to investigate the user-centered design issues for search engine interfaces. The area of study was also concerned with developing a new search engine “Surfrom” and validating the usability of its user interface design. The research work began with a comprehensive literature survey of relevant research article, search engine history and development, current trends of search engine interfaces, existing web interface design guidance and requirements. Also, an investigation continued into the latest information on Web2.0 technologies, existing development of online Web2.0 services and applications, and the influences of user experience when using a search engine. In order to identify users’ habitual practices and specific needs, a pilot survey was conducted to give an insight into the present selection and utilization of search engines among those internet users who are familiar with Web2.0 services and application. Following the findings of this survey, the five influential factors in association with user issues and Web2.0 concepts were proposed as design principles for a user-centered search engine interface design. Then, A conceptual search engine “Surfrom”, which matched the theory-driven principles and practical experiences, was developed. Finally, the area of study was concerned with validating and measuring appropriateness and usability of the newly developed “Surfrom”.
Surfrom match the concept of user-oriented and provides every user with personalized search engine interface that offers mash-up search results and all kinds of functions. Through the sharing of the users in Surfrom, the convenience of search process will be improved.
