Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 工商管理學系 === 98 === Enterprises will adopt different types of strategic alliances based on their own core competency and resources under a competitive industrial environment. The impacts on alliance performance will be varied under different types of strategic alliance. This study aims to explore the relationship between types of strategic alliance and alliance performance while examining the role of knowledge acquisition played in the association. According to literature review, the role of knowledge acquisition is hypothesized as a mediator between types of strategic alliance and alliance performance in the research structure. The study has constructed a questionnaire to collect information from participant biotechnology companies in Taiwan. Forty out of 140 biotech companies responded the survey with 35 valid samples successfully collected in the final. A 87.5% valid response rate was counted and 59 strategic alliances were calculated from the data. The statistical analysis has utilized two-sample independent t test, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression models to test proposed hypotheses. The primary findings have demonstrated that different knowledge contents were acquired from different type of strategic alliance while knowledge acquisitions were positively associated with alliance performance independently. The mediating role of knowledge acquisition from strategic alliance was refuted in the overall research structure. However, the association between some specific types of strategic alliance their subsequent alliance performance was suggested through knowledge acquisitions. The findings of this study have demonstrated an innovative causal path of strategic alliance and alliance performance in emerging R&D industry like biotech industry in Taiwan. Information derived from this analysis gives clues for corporate managers to plan future strategic alliance and to foresee industrial developments in knowledge economic era.
