Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 高齡者教育所 === 98 === The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the elderly who participate in learning and their physical and mental condition for providing them and relevant institutions as reference. This study adopted the questionnaire survey method and used the questionnaire based on the result of review of literature and entitled ‘A study of physical and mental condition among the elderly who participate in learning and those who don’t ’ to investigate. The elderly with an age of above 55 in Chiayi are the subjects of this study. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed, and 226 out of 231 questionnaires retrieved are valid. The recover rate is 92.4%. SPSS is adopted to proceed statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics, x2, t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The conclusions based on the results of the study are as the follows: 1. The elder people’s physical and mental condition is good. 2. The background factors which influence the elderly who participate in learning include age, marital status, educational background, financial status and past or present occupation. 3. The background factors which are relevant to the elder people’s physical and mental condition include marital status, educational background, financial status and past or present occupation. 4. The physical and mental condition of the elderly who participate in learning is better than those who don’t . According to the results of this study, some suggestions are provided for the elderly, elder educational institutes, the executive authorities and future studies. 1. Suggestions for the elderly (1) Keeping well physical and mental condition helps to proceed successful aging. (2) Being active to participate in learning helps the elderly to maintain good physical and mental condition . 2. Suggestions for elder educational institutes (1) Offer programs which can meet in the elder people’s need, and promote these programs with help of the elderly who have already participated in them. (2) Reduce the charge and look for funds to provide the elderly with the assistance and support they need anytime. 3. Suggestions for the executive authorities (1) Value the importance of elder education and provide funds to support it. (2) Establish more learning institutions to increase learning opportunities. 4. Suggestions for future studies (1) Future studies can focus on either the nation-wide elderly or the elderly from different counties or cities to explore the differences between their physical and mental condition. (2) In order to understand the elder people’s physical and mental condition more, qualitative research can be conducted. (3) In order to enable the elderly who participate in the study to answer more easily, fewer questions and enlarging the words on the design of the research tool will be needed.
