Because the implementation of ERP system is very complicated and ERP system usually involves several software and enterprise systems, the ERP system takes a long time to settle down and it is also one of the significant information system investments in a company. From the plan to the maintenance stage in the ERP system life cycle, there would be a lot of problems. Therefore, how to properly control risks in ERP system life cycle is the biggest challenge for management to achieve the time, cost and quality goals. Under this circumstance, the research goal is to develop an ERP system risk management mechanism based on system life cycle to provide enterprises an ERP system risk management tool. The research investigates the possible ERP system risk factors in system life cycle and uses an assessment to help companies to analyze the effects of each risk factor and to choose proper ways to respond the risks. That is to say, the research uses Grounded Theory to identify the 49 risk factors of ERP system and then classify into nine categories of work system framework to develop the risk management mechanism based on the system life cycle. Furthermore, the research uses professional’s questionnaire to modify the ERP system risk factors to replenish the insufficiency of the literature. Finally, the research uses two cases to attest the usability of the risk management mechanism. In brief, this paper proposes an approach to identify, assess, and respond the possible ERP system risk factors to provide enterprises a convenient, quick, and proper ERP system risk management tool.
