Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 台灣文學所 === 98 === For scholars of pre-1945 modern poetry, their historical consciousness, ideology and identity have had a substantial impact upon their perspective and naturally influenced the construction of the history of poetry. While earlier studies concentrated on the canonization of literature, more recent studies focus on the process of literary genre formation. Therefore, this thesis takes ''development'' as the center of its study. Concerning the formation of modern poetry, how have the ideologies long evident in modern poetry and the introduction of foreign elements impacted upon the development of this poetry and what significance has this had for post-War poetry? I will engage with this study of pre-1945 poetry by considering four important themes: the defining of free form poetry, vernacular free verse and modern poetry; horizontal borrowing, including modern techniques, and the introduction of a modern consciousness; the expansion of literary spirit; and the solidification of these features that have extended across periods. This thesis concerns Taiwan''s modern poetry, taking 1930s modern poetry as its principal subject of study with the beginnings of the Taiwan New Literature Movement in the 1920s as its starting point and the Yinling Hui providing an important example of how the ideology and techniques of modern poetry spanned the pre and post-War periods. Through the comparison of poets and their works, this thesis examines their position in the history of poetry in order to provide connections between pre and post-War modern poetry in Taiwan.
