Out of such dramatic political, economic, and social changes came a great harvest. On the literature arena, it was a time where writers echoed and contended against each other. Many of them realized that the core of all social problems in Taiwan lied in “politics”, and as a result, political literature came into being. Political literature is a literature of high ideology that often refers to real-life subjects in social concern and criticism. Among the political writers, Sung Tse-lai has remained as one of the most well known. Most readers give high regards to his realist style of narrative in the novel that uncovers the hidden social issues at the time. In most studies done on writer Sung Tse-lai, it is known that most people used theory as the point of entry in analyzing his form of writing, and seldom from the perspective of religious belief to examine writer''s own "physical" needs and "spiritual" inspiration. As an important element in this study, although using religious beliefs as the source of ideas in the writer’s creative process is the easiest place to start, it is also the area most neglected, which is why it has become the subject of this study. This study explored Sung''s political texts written along the axis of magical realism, and apart from highlighting the role that religious belief played in his creative thinking, it described the political views of the writer and his subject of concern. It pointed out how to transform one’s spiritual enlightenment and "vision" into a demand for external “phenomenon”. It is hoped that through the understanding of the writer’s works and the political perspective, one will be able to trace back in time and see the society then.
