Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 運動與休閒教育所 === 98 === The purpose of this research was to explore the main sedentary behaviors among junior high school students, and to compare the differences of the amount of time they spend on physical activities, and their body images under different background variables. Research samples included junior high school students from different parts of Taiwan, and were selected randomly according to the ratio of public and private junior high schools. A total number of 580 questionnaires were delivered, and 559 of them were effective. The data were tested by descriptive analysis, one-way-ANOVA, and T-test. The results were as follows: First, junior high school students’ most prevalent sedentary behavior was watching TV with their families in the living room (91%); second, junior high school students’ most prevalent physical activity was walking (73%); third, in the body image measurement, junior high school students showed the most interests on the item of appearance orientation with an average of 3.6 points; fourth, there were significant gender differences in time spent on some main sedentary behaviors which involved computer/internet and video games among junior high school students; fifth, there were significant differences on body image scores in correspondent to the amount of time spent on main sedentary behaviors, such as TV-watching and reading; sixth, there were significant gender differences in the amount of time spent on main physical activity involving walking, ball games, and non-ball games, as well as the total scores on the body image measurement; and seventh, there were significant differences on body image scores corresponding with the amount of time spent on main physical activities s involving walking, bike-riding as well as ball games. The prevalence of TV-watching was 91%, with an average of 118 minutes a day; parents were recommended to increase their children’s physical activities and regular exercises. Similar to past researches, appearances orientation seemed to be the main concern of junior high school students. In accordance with past researches showed that females’ favorite exercise was walking, junior high school girls spent more time walking than boys. This study showed that junior high school girls spent more time walking than boys which was corresponding with the past research that walking was females’ favorite physical activity. Spending less time watching TV appeared to have better physical evaluation than those of spending more time. It is concluded that for those who spend less time watching TV tend to be not overweight and have normal or slim body, most importantly feel better about their physical fitness.
