With the development of human society and the rapid advance of technologies, the consumption of energy is also increasing quickly. Gas and Oil are the most important energies in our modern society, and the scarce nature of these energies is bond to cause the great powers of the international society to an intense competition in the foreseeable future. China is the largest developing state in the world. In order to support China’s enormous market growth and productivity, it is inevitable for China to depend on huge importation of energy from aboard. Russia used to be the essence of the U.S.S.R in the cold war, and the legacy of an enormous territory and energy resources may be its key to rebuild the domestic economy. China and Russia stand on the two sides of the supply-demand chains of energy, and due to the close geographical relations, it is mutually beneficial for them to cooperate in the field of energy. However, the anarchy nature which caused the security dilemma of international politics has made them hard to build a mutual-trusted relation, and even harder to cooperate. This essay is set to analyze the relations between China and Russia in the energy field, and to explain the opportunities and difficulties in their cooperation.
