Promotion is a personnel selection process. The most essential condition of this process is to match the right people and the right jobs. The pursuit of career advancement is based on the increase in work and life satisfaction, the challenge to assure the individual''s abilities, and hereby to increase salaries and upgrade social status, and to prove the success of career accomplishment. Principal candidates who stand out from the principal assessments are naturally bright and superior in people’s eyes. But during the waiting period of principal appointment, how one deal with the uncertainty is rarely documented. This study is self-narrative-based, supplemented by the general narrative. In addition to author’s sensitive perception of the situation, it is mainly tracing back the personal life experiences and then onto the road as the school principal, supplemented by the greatest understanding of the field description of the education situation and the interviews with the principal candidate partners. Shuttling between the theory and practice, presented by the text to reflect the aspirations of potential to reason out the sequence of ideas of school principal’s promotion and preparing process. By tracing back the past experience, one can foresee the future. Major conclusions of this research were as the followings: I. The principals during their pre-service training have different role definitions when facing the uncertainty of promotion process. II.The principals’ practice in the promotion process is decided by their participation and attitude. III.The principals would try to look for internal and external resource to support themselves. IV.The principals must interact with others appropriately to get a promotion.
