Most studies were thoughtful for ethnic intermarriage and education of boundary-crossing marriages, but few studies were concerned with marital age patterns as a social and cultural change indicators. So, the main purpose of this study is to explore the influence of individual characteristics, family’s attributes, and the process of mating on the age patterns of marriage. By discussing with the traditional social exchange theory, the marriage market of rational choice, and structure theory to understand the formation of mating patterns and social significance. This study used the secondary data analysis, and the data from the 1991-2006 Taiwan Social Change Survey conducted by the Academia Sinica Institute of Sociology. We use Multinomial Logistic Regression Analysis, in order to verify the hypothesis presented in this paper. The results show that educational attainment is an important factor in age patterns of marriage. The higher of educational attainment who choose " age-reversal marriage " or " age-homogamous marriages " has a relatively high probability. Furthermore, an important aspect of the marriage market is the timing of the transition out of school and into marriage. As well as the mating process of meeting settings plays a significant role in the age patterns of marriage. We find that an educational institution will promote " age-reversal marriage " and mate choice of smaller age difference between husband and wife. Besides, the longer who leave educational institution, the lower the effect as a restraining mechanism. By increasing the likelihood that one would marriage someone with age heterogamous marriages. Finally, marriage age in this study showed negative significant effects. In other words, the earlier generation''s choice of " age-reversal mating " have a higher proportion. Although the results were unexpected in this study, but it shows the analysis of generational differences also play an important role in breaking the boundary of age marital partners.
