The aqueous fluorine-containing polyurethane was synthesized by polycondensation of perfluoroalkyl alcohol and polyether with a diol of chem-transter agent in order to increase hydrophobic property. The fluorine-containing polyurethane was characterized and studied by Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy(FT-IR), Gel Permeation Chromatagraphy analyzer(GPC), Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and contact angle. FT-IR results indicated that the surface of the fluorine-containing polyurethane was appearing with fluorine component. It exhibited a hydrophobic property with a water contact angle more than 90°.When fluorine-containing polyurethanes were employed for the textile coatings, the resulting PU-coated textiles exhibited excellent waterproof properties. Characterization with AATCC-22 standard mtehod to grade water repellence features of the textile coatings resulted up to 80 levels. In summary, aqueous fluorine-containing polyurethane merits attention for military textile equipments because of its waterproof properties.
