The maintenance activities in constructed PMMSPS involve preventive maintenance, preventive repair, and preventive replace which are common operations in Army Aviation. Accordingly, this thesis establishes a hybrid particle swarm optimization (HPSO) to solve the PMMSPS efficiently. Since solving the PMMSPS need to simultaneously optimize the preventive periods of all components which are continuous variables, and the corresponding maintenance activities which are discrete variables, the typical PSO cannot directly be applied to solve the constructed PMMSPS. In this regard, other than the typical PSO movement mechanism that are suitable use for continuous variables, the movement mechanism for searching global solution of optimal maintenance activity is constructed in the established HPSO. A real case from past study verifies the validity of the constructed HPSO. The optimal maintenance periods and maintenance activity for series-parallel systems can be obtained after optimizing the PMMSPS using the constructed HPSP. The appropriate amount of spare parts for each component is thereby determined.
