Leadership is one of the most critical factors to influence the performance of business units of an insurance company and, thus, is deem as an important dimension for insurance company to focus on. In order to help sales supervisors strengthen personal charisma and visionary leadership with effective communication and motivating actions, this study integrated action reaserch and appreciative inquiry into the traditional training system of the case company to observe its influence on leadership development. Interviews with participants revealed that the application of action research on leadership training program showed evidence that participating supervisors felt benefited from such a integrtive training program. The result of this study proved the utility of action research as a supplementary measure to the traditional training system and provided a new perspective for the insurance industry to consider when designing its leadership training and development program.
