Under the heterogeneous wireless network service environment, mobile users are able to obtain low-cost and fast mobile multimedia service via various networks. In order to effectively integrate different types of network platforms and service units in the heterogeneous wireless network, most mobile multimedia services employ the Service-Oriented Architecture. It is worth noting that the data transfer rate of mobile multimedia service in the heterogeneous wireless network suffers from the movement of the mobile users. This can also cause service disconnection. Retransmission is one solution to the service disconnection problem caused by user movement. However, retransmission not only increases user access time, but also wastes the limited resources of the wireless network. In addition, it also requires significant power consumption, an issue for power-constrained devices. This problem can be severely worsened due to the large amount of multimedia information. Therefore, we design and develop the Mobile Multimedia Service-Oriented System based on the concept of the Service-Oriented Architecture. The mobile multimedia service-oriented system is expected to shorten the user reconnection time after service disconnection, reduce waste of wireless network resources, and decrease the power consumption of mobile devices. The two major functions of the system are: Location Update and Continuous Service. Location Update provides available network service resources based on the user’s current location. Continuous Service offers the user continuous transmission according to the service disconnection records. Keywords:Heterogeneous Wireless Network, Mobile Multimedia Service, Service-Oriented Architecture, Location Update, Continuous Service. 黃毅然 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 63 zh-TW
