The study adopted a quasi-experiment design with a pretest and a posttest on two groups-- one an experimental group and the other a control group. The participants were 20 junior high second graders in Yunlin County, with ten in each group. The experiment lasted for six weeks, during which the experimental group received the fifty-minute intervention twice a week. The counseling course contained twelve units onGroup Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition. However, the control group received no intervention. Four weeks after the intervention, a retention test was given to the experimental group to investigate the retaining effect of the intervention. The instruments included the “the Scale of Career Cognition for Junior High Students”, interviews, and the worksheet for members in the experimental group at the end of every counseling session. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA and a one-sample T-test. The dependent variable was the scores of “the Scale of Career Cognition for Junior High Students”, and the independent variable was theGroup Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition. In order to be qualitative as well, an interview was given to the students in the experimental group one week after the experiment so as to know the changing process of the career cognition.
The research findings were as follows:
1.The implementation of Group Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition has a positive and lasting effect on the experimental group’s
self-awareness.
2.The implementation of Group Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition has a positive and lasting effect on the experimental group’s career
exploration.
3.The implementation of Group Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition has a positive and lasting effect on the experimental group’s career
planning.
4.The implementation of Group Counseling with the Integrated Model of Career Cognition has a positive and lasting effect on self-awareness, career exploration and
career planning of each member in the experimental group.
