A Study on Use of Pictogram of Information Design－A case on the Pet’s Hospital

碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 === 97 === In the booming of pet market today, the pet industry has already have a very user friendly with many of the related products or services , and the about the concept of pets have been gradually changed,it improved its status almost to be existing as the same as of mankind, but in their correlated industries , the setting of pet''s hospital has not simultaneously achieved the same level, such like the hospital for humankind is with high density of information design implied inside it ,but the most obviously is that pet''s hospitals are generally lack of some assistance of pictogram, to let consumers could attain the necessary information easier through those information in enviroment , so this study is exploring the process of design of pictogram, and to make it applied in the visual environment of pet''s hospital ,and by the research steps of several stages ,and examining the pictogram of pet''s hospital , to bring up the probable plan. Which are Used as follows: First of all, understand the present status of pet''s hospitals by the searching of literatures, as well as the use of pictogram; At the same time, to know the pictogram''s origin, revolution and the way to be designed through the the relevant literatures of pictogram, and collect those pictogram relevant to the subject of this study. Then, to proceed the screening of pictogram by Focus Group , select those representative pictogram out, capture those elements these pictogram composed of, and survey the taste of pictogram types and relevant opinion of consumers of pet''s hospital by Questionnaires, to know which service of pet’s hospital need to become pictogram ,and which element that could be joined into the design. Then give the above-mentioned information to three different pictogram designers to design the pictogram system of pet''s hospital . Upon completion proceed screening by Importance-Performance Analysis, that is, for three different pictogram system of pet''s hospital , according to six rules which are used to estimate the pictogram, let the consumers of pet''s hospital to estimate the degrees of importance and performance of these three pictogram system of pet''s hospital on the six rules, to let the consequence of the competition running out to select the most excellent pictogram system of pet''s hospital out . And we install the pictogram system in pet''s hospital which has been selected in last phase in an actual pet''s hospital directly , to Comprehension Test this pictogram, and test and verify its feasibility. And after the observation to every pictogram one by one through the consumers of pet''s hospital , to see if they can answer every meaning that these pictogram correctly, and collect reasons that might caused the mistaken and relevant advices of consumer''s. If the situations of answering have achieved the standard of being qualified , then it shows the design of pictogram is correct; but if they have not achieved the standard, then fix it according to reasons caused the mistaken and advice. After the above-mentioned process of research, this study is able to construct a pictogram system that more suitable to pet''s hospital. This pictogram system consist of dogs, cats, birds, fish, mice, rabbits, turtles, insects, lizards, pigs, hosted accommodation, health checks, feeding advice, chip implantation, animals vaccinated, animals adoption with a total of 16 design projects. The pictogram designer design the pictogram of pet’s type by real image, and design the pictogram of service of pet’s hospital by reverse image. The style is sample and succinct. The pictogram system present of witty and interesting. The elements of pictogram system constructed simply and necessarily. It is able to avoid making a mistake and the situation that recognizing pictogram is interfered, so it can communicate message to consumer exactly. Finally , we expect the pictogram system can apply to pet’s hospital actually, expanding the field of using pictogram and the operation ways left when the application environment of pictogram are changed provide workers in other areas or information designer have the reference when they take the design of pictogram as one item to join in the future.
