To promote the High–strength Reinforced Concrete (HRC) construction technology, it is necessary to develop the specification of high-strength steel bars, SD 590/685/785, and corresponding amendment for the codes of mechanical splices and anchorage devices. This study reviewed specifications of steel bars and the related codes for mechanical splices and anchorage in Europe, United States, Japan, and Taiwan. Subsequently, a number of sampled SD 685 steel bars, couplers, and headed bars were tested. Finally, based on CNS560, a draft specification for steel bars (SD 590/685/785) for reinforced concrete was proposed to the Taiwan Concrete Institute. In addition, this study proposed an amendment to the Performance Evaluation Criteria for Mechanical Splices and Anchorage Devices of High-Strength Reinforcement.
