Therefore, the development of the related technologies has become even more critical. In order to provide another mechanism for ink-jet droplet’s quality control and recovery, the commercial software ANSYS-CFX was used in this thesis to analyze the design of adding a outer suction ring to the traditional ink-jet nozzle. Evaluation of the effects of the geometric design of the outer ring, the magnitude and the time delay of the applied suction pressure on the droplets was achieved in this study. Comparison of the droplet’s flying distance, cross sectional area and break-up time was carries out to examine the effects of different operating parameters. Based on the numerical observation, it is showed that, the shorter the time delay of the suction pressure, the greater the impact of the suction force on the droplet, and the shorter the droplet’s flying distance. But, if the suction pressure is applied after the break-up of the droplet, it will make less impact on the droplet. The results also indicate that the break-up time of the droplet is inversely proportional to the time delay of the suction pressure. However, the later the droplet breaks, the more unstable it will be. Therefore, time delay of 0% and 33%tb ( represents the break-up time with no suction pressure applied) should be avoided. On the other hand, it also shows from the comparison that the most proper magnitude of the applied suction pressure is 0.4 atm (40% of the maximum driving pressure) when the suction force and the ink’s usage is concerned.
