Research fellows can find the information of developing tendency and competitor patent portfolio on patent specifications, and determine the optimum direction of research and development.。
Biochip is one of the most potential biotechnology industries in 21st century，The biochip technology including two major fields：microarray biochip and microfluidic biochip(lab-on a chip)。Many countries have actively undertaken various projects in order to get the leading position in this field，U.S. is the major market in the development of the biochip industry，According to the report of Freedonia group in 2008: US demand for microarray biochip products and services is forecast to increase almost ten percent per year to $2.5 billion in 2012.
This study employs the patent analysis tool, Patent Guider2.0, to analyze the patent of microarray biochip.，We choose seventy-two major competition microarray biochip companies in American to perform patent analysis，deeply comprehend the technique skill of the microarray biochip patent, and competition intelligence, in order to monitor the patent of those international enterprises and further to provide such data to domestic biochip company as references。
There are four principal points that we concluded：1：microarray biochip is a matured industry; but the life cycle of microarray biochip patent technique is in decline stage；2：most of major Biochips manufacturing patent is belong to some companies ,as Affymerix, Agilent ,inc；If new companies want to enter the industry, They have to concentrate on different fields to get the niche market.for example：Illumina，Inc。3 The pioneering biochip company, Affymetrix,is a successful model in patent management：Affymetrix,Inc has the largest number of patents and holds many key patents，in the meanwhile，Affymetrix,Inc is the leading position in Research capacity；The number of inventors in Affymetrix is 107 persons,less then 133 persons in Agilent；But Affymetrix possessed four inventors in the topten，including the keyperson：Fodor;Stephen.P.A。4Taiwan had the more capacity in the field of chipbase and biochip application，If domestic companies want to enter the industry, They maybe concentrate on these two fields to get the niche market
