Most enterprises are aware of this matter and realize that patent and patent related issues are very important. Analysis of the patent status is basis for the analysis or the management of the patent, but a survey of patent status during patent analysis needs a lot of human resources. Most of the small and medium-sized companies seldom have a more detailed investigation on the status of a patent of a specific technology because of their limited resources. In this study, patent analysis methodology is used to research the technological development status of secondary side synchronous rectification technology in switching power supplies. Using personnel, software, time and other academic resources, a detailed investigation on the patent status in the United States Patent and Trademark Office patent database (USPTO) for use in secondary side synchronous rectification technology of switching power supply was conducted. During the patent status search, the final search strategy resulted from the repetitive sampling and review of patents during the initial search. Manual screening narrowed the scope from over 600 results to 243. Patent management map analysis was conducted including patent transition by application years, patent transition by country, applicants, inventors, IPC subclass and UPC subclass. The results will help switching power supply manufacturers quickly understand the distribution and development trends of technology, as well as the patent status of manufacturers all over the world in the field of secondary side synchronous rectification technology for switching power supplies. It can also be a reference for manufacturers to carry out the management of patent related research and development of new products, and to reduce obstacles in patent related research issues.
