Summary:碩士 === 雲林科技大學 === 企業管理系碩士班 === 97 === This study explored the influence of the firm size, technological competence and R&D expenditures on the Patent Performance of Computer Communication Equipment Industry of United States. The research samples were total 42 companies, and the time was lasting 1998 to 2007. First of all, the results showed that the influence among the firm size technological competence and R&D expenditures with patent performance existed in time lag effect in three years. Besides, the researcher found that the firm size, technological competence and R&D expenditures had positive relationship with Patent Performance. This study suggests that the computer communication equipment industry of United States could use Mergers and Acquisitions to expand their firm size, then they could obtain the advantages over the economies of scale in R&D activities or economies of scope, to promote their firms’ patent performance. Furthermore, they should centralize the research resources on some particular technical fields to develop the firms’ core competence, in order to enhance the technological competence to promote the firms’ patent performance. It can help the firms maintain their competitive advantage in competitive conditions. In addition, through strengthen R&D expenditures, it could advance firms’ patent performance.
