Due to the competition of the iron and steel market, the products size in an order tends to be complex, coupled with need to meet the machine constraint and characteristics that makes the scheduling of hot strip mill rolling process to be a NP-Hard problem. In order to find a way in solving this problem, this research try to use Variable Neighborhood Search(VNS) method to build up a model which consider roll consumption and hot charge rate to solve scheduling problem more effective. The results from the simulation shows that the performance of scheduling using VNS method is better than GA method in considering the wear kilometer (WKM) and hot charge rate.
