All the reinforced fibers are plain woven fabrics. The epoxy and polylactide (PLA) resins have been used as the matrix materials. Therefore, there are two systems of composites have been made in current experiment. One is natural fiber and high performance fiber fabrics reinforced thermoset epoxy resin. The other is the same fabrics reinforced thermoplastic PLA resin. Two manufacturing methods have been used to fabricate these composites. For thermoset composites, the fabrics impregnated with epoxy resin by hand sprayed method and the impregnated materials had been cured in a hot-press machine. On the other hand, the resin film method had been used to make the thermoplastic PLA composites. Tensile, compression, and three-point bending tests were performed on the composite panels. The mechanical properties and failure phenomena of the panels under the mentioned tests have been discussed in current study. The experimental results indicated that the cotton plain fabric/PLA composites have the equivalent strength with the cotton plain fabric/epoxy resin composites under compression. The tensile failure of jute composites appeared a brittle mode. For three-point bending, the cotton/epoxy composites have higher modulus than that of jute/epoxy composites.
