In recent years, due to the advance of the display techniques, researches and development on display techniques of stereo images have received wide attention. In this thesis, we focus on the design of the naked eye 3D stereo display. Basically, the signals of a naked eye 3D stereo display system are taked simutaneously using a camera array consist of several cameras with specific viewpoints. However, in many situations we can not equip with a sophisticated camera arrays instead of using a pair or just a few cameras. The purpose of this research is using the views from sparse cameras to produce the virtual views for the vacant cameras in the confuguration of a camera array, so that we can provide a naked eye 3D stereo display system the necessary signal. We consider the production of intermediate views from a pair of known stereo images. Firstly, we retify these images and estimate the dense disparity map. Then we apply an interpolation method which uses both the rectified stereo images and the estimated disparity data to generate the virtual images for an intermediate viewpoint between the two known stereo images. Once synthesizing the images for the intermediate viewpoints, we can provide them to a naked eye 3D stereo display system. In our experiment, we have implemented a naked eye 3D stereo display which utilizes a lenticular lens array, precisely positioned on top of a flat panel LCD color display. We have successfully demonstrated that without using an expensive and sophiscated 3D stereo imaging system, we can produce 3D effects on a common flat panel display for naked eye viewers.
