Description
Summary:碩士 === 大同大學 === 資訊工程學系(所) === 97 === In recent years, network usage is getting more and more popular due to the advancement of the information technology. The P2P applications providing shared download, instant messenger, on-line chat, and audio/video communication are developed as a free service in the Internet. The uses of P2P applications, such as P2P file sharing, skype and IM, in not only being used at home but also in the enterprise. They will cause traffic problem to the Internet and the enterprise network. If the ISP company tries to block or limit the P2P traffic, it is a violation of network freedom. On the other hand, if the network administrator of the enterprise spends a lot of budget to purchase gateway products, it is still not able to allow selected users to have the right to use the P2P and block others, owing to the behavior of skype and P2P download. Totally block is not a good choice since P2P applications such as skype or IM could be used to make contact with customer and save the communication cost for the enterprise. It is hard for the network manager to deal with this kind of problems. This research is to investigate how an enterprise can manage its network to solve the P2P traffic problem. We will use an enterprise network environment as the platform to do experiments and analysis of the traffic control mechanism of P2P applications. The proposed methods try to use existing equipments and resources in the enterprise with minimum additional cost to manage the P2P traffic. Our goal is to achieve the balance between open the P2P applications to selected users and effective network management. We will also address the issues of P2P traffic management policy of an ISP that can solve the problems caused by the P2P traffic more effectively.
