Today, some Blogs even become the first choice among information dissemination tools for some internet users. From 2006, the rise of social networking sites for book information exchange had offerred the book lovers to establish their book collection online and to provide convenient collection of books among different social platforms. Relatively, the common blogging services are mainly domestic in ones log, photos and video. With regard to books lovers, these blogs with book collection can provide users to read, and conveniently share their taste of reading, the joy of displaying the reading preferences, links to friends with similar reading interests. In addition, by the nature of tribals closely linking to each other, more people are willing to reading and sharing, and then enrich the connotation of blog levels.
This study was designed from both habitual reading and bloggers’ points of view. With the current research of Blogs for book collection online, the researcher investigated the interface requirements and the ideal design of interfaces for users.
This study was divided into three stages. The first phase was gathering functional requirements. The result showed that the majority of those surveyed thought book collection service was important among a blog site's functions. The second phase was the experiments of interface design and the basic functions of book collection features using existing function modules of blogs. The result of analysis leaded to detailed needs of user interface components.
The third stage was to explore the design of page layout and interface components, and mode of operation, based on the results of literature review and the interface needs. The researcher used web-editing software to create two sets of simulation interfaces. Participants carried out four groups of typical tasks as follows: browsing blog, browsing the blog RSS network, new book adding, books collection editing.
The results showed that:
(1)When users browse the book collection of information blog on the single-page, it’s better to design the information on the same page, with the background darkening, and provide with the information of book on single-window mode.
(2)About the interface of this blog RSS Network, presenting the abstract of a book comment directly at the entry of links is better.
(3)It’s necessary to show the confirmation message to notice users that new book adding is completed, and then jump back to the book editing pages.
(4)It’s better to design the “Edit” icon directly on the book cover, or right below the book cover.
(5)About single-book data page, single book editing pages of the book, the button to enter or exit the category editing mode should be presented in the same single page, and avoid scrolling window.
There was no Blog with book collection as the core-concept in Taiwan. This study is to deliver experience and knowledge for related research or design of such an interface.
