The 211 participants (99 males and 112 females) were people over 40 years old from traditional markets and contestants of 2009 Taiwan Evergreen Table Tennis Championship. All participants were administered with Physical Self-Concept Inventory and Life Satisfaction Inventory. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics、Spearman rank correlation and independent t-tests. Results of the study were as follows: 1. participants engaging in table tennis showed significant higher life satisfaction than non-exercisers (p<.001); 2. participants engaging in table tennis showed significant higher physical self-concept than non-exercisers (p<.001); 3. a significantly positive relationship was found between participation of table tennis and overall physical self-concept (rs=.21、p<.05) of participants; 4. no significant differences were found on life satisfaction with regard to different gender and age of participants (p>.05); 5. a significant difference was found on physical self-concept with regard to different gender of participants (p<.05)、while no significant difference was found on physical self-concept with different age (p>.05). In conclusion、researcher suggests that 1. mid-agers and senior citizens engaging in table tennis have higher life satisfaction; 2. mid-agers and senior citizens engaging in table tennis have higher physical self-concept; 3. table tennis participation of mid-agers and senior citizens is positively related to total physical self-concept; 4. life satisfaction would not be different with regard to gender and age of mid-agers and senior table tennis participants; 5. physical self-concept would be different among mid-agers and senior table tennis participants with different gender while physical self-concept would not be different among participants with different age. Key words: exercise、level of sports participation、chronic disease、successful aging Chang,Jo-Ning 張若寧 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 61 zh-TW
