碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 音樂表演與創作研究所 === 97 === The work Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano in E-flat Major, Op.40 by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) is one of the most important chamber music for Horn. This is the first arrangement for Horn, Violin and Piano in chamber music. The balance of volume is very hard to achieve in this work,the horn player need to pay attention to the other two instruments in order to reach the best presentation. It is a challenge for a horn player to execute and interpret it. Brahms was quite familiar regarding the French horn utilization. He put French horn in an important position in his orchestral works and brings out its significant tone quality. This work was his intermediate stage work and reveals the profound emotion through the interaction of three instruments cordiality. Brahms had utilized many romantic skills by other composer. By doing so, he creates the unique characteristic of timbre for French horn. It enables the music to have a richer tensity.
