The improper inpainting will change the content of artworks directly, lossing the original style and making a failure transmission of artist’s emotion and idea which made a serious influence on the historical and art judgment of artworks. Foreign literature are less mention about inpating of watercolor painting, and researches of Taiwanese are only limited to such as techniques, materials and tools, etc. of watercolor painting that dose not have a particular description on this field. This thesis regards Lee Tse-Fan’s “Window” watercolor collection at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts as the research object and discuss the suitability of inpainting on artworks. In consideration of inpainting, this thesis is based on aesthetic and ethical standard to make a explainaiton the relationship between using traditional direct inpainting , computer scientific and indirect inpainting of film that invented by author. Additional, through the field study of this artwork to realize the characteristic, tools and historical significance of artist, and then to do the aging experiments of simulation 1, 5, 9, 16, 24 days of three isolating layers of inpainting Aquazol® 500, Methyl cellulose and Klucel® G, by experimental result and author assessment, select more suitable Klucel® G as isolating layer for inpainting. After simulated treatment of various assessment, such as mapping software simulate condition of inpainting, proposition , discussion with curator, making decision for suitable inpainting way to this work, and according this decision to do treatment. By this thesis will offer conservators a reference which is not for the suitability of inpainting on artworks and execution of inpainting treatment in the future but to avoid the injury again.
