This paper takes the discourse of Michel Foucault as the approach to explore how the powers of museums function. Based on Jean Baudrillard’s description of “consumer society”, this study considers how visual communication is responsible for ordering society. It compares three distinct types of exhibition spaces: “museum”, “exhibition”, and “department store”. Because of the characteristics of the method of visual display in each exhibition space, these spaces not only influence each other, but are also a reflection of themselves.
