碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 建築藝術研究所 === 97 === This master thesis mainly bases on the experience of the author who assisted the space reconstruction for Togo village in Houbi township, Tainan county during 2005 to 2008. It expresses plan execution, actual working and designing process. Apart from the value of work with respect to the urban, it is also a discovery of oneself, as an assistant, who worked in the urban, not just a single way process, also a process which changes others makes oneself changes simultaneously. Hence “making” and “been made” occurs at the same time. This thesis consists work log, dialogue, event cards, images, and animation records as evidences for 3 years and 9 months’ participation experience. The author used first-person perspective to descript how “former self” dealt with events, actions and live interaction process. It delivers time, location, character, operation target, language and messages which affected author’s feeling, question, emotion, and senses. Author also comes back to “present self” ,to reconsider, analyze, and emphasis “an overlapped dialogue between former self and present self”. At the end, author concluded with organizing all information and related references. The overall document expresses how author, as a community assistant, became a learner when dealing with real word community empowerment, which is such a complex social engineering, and encounter the self changing process. Author use “rice” as a metaphor which “self changing process” is like the process of growing rice divided in three stages: sprout which touches earth at first time, green rice paddy encounters wind and rain, and grow to be golden rice field, and straw man made of straws left over after harvesting. Author described self changing introspection includes self “character thinking”, “attitude” when entering community, “creation” bases on community, and participation “community”. Base on almost 4 years’ experience and expertise when entering community, author believes behind the relationship or professional (maker) and inhabitant (been made), there is actually a value which inherit both parties. With respect to Taiwanese community empowerment, expertise should not be trapped by incomplete social value, and dissolve themselves into too formative policy and curriculum nor too superstitious in theorems and forget the reality of filed. It should be a process on helping community and learning from community simultaneously and try to be an “organic assistant” while changing life style for others, ask ourselves if we have courage to change and then integrate self attitude, III which creates happiness life with community as a target.
