The research approach was based on the TIMSS 1999 Video Study, the teaching styles of fourth grade mathematics teachers were analyzed in a two-stage stratified cluster, their classroom interactions were videotaped for digitization, codification, and analysis. In addition, with the standards of NAEP, the research made use of the Coding Video Data II: Specialists to design a coding structure suitable for observing and evaluating mathematics teachers in their teaching styles. The results are as follow: (1) Teachers focused on " quantity " and "geometry" while teaching mathematics and they put more emphasis on teaching basic and similar questions. (2)When solving problem segment and non-problem segment problems, teachers rely heavily on procedural knowledge, direct calculation, formulas, or using operation symbols to arrive at solutions. They focus helping the students understand the mathmathical logics and concepts behind the solutions (3) Teachers used various representations in the classroom to enable students to learn; they liked to link the real-word situations to make a connection. (4) Teachers spent more time introducing and practicing new content in order to impart new knowledge. But in imparting new knowledge, they reviewed the old knowledge, so that students could be consistent. (5) 75% of time teachers interacted with students to enable students to participate in learning. 碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 數學資訊教育學系數學資訊教育教學碩士學位 === 97 === This thesis is to analyze the mathematics teaching of middle region fourth grade
elementary teachers through systematic recording of classroom instruction.
The research approach was based on the TIMSS 1999 Video Study, the teaching styles of fourth grade mathematics teachers were analyzed in a two-stage stratified cluster, their classroom interactions were videotaped for digitization, codification, and analysis.
In addition, with the standards of NAEP, the research made use of the Coding Video Data II: Specialists to design a coding structure suitable for observing and evaluating
mathematics teachers in their teaching styles.
The results are as follow:
(1) Teachers focused on " quantity " and "geometry" while teaching mathematics and
they put more emphasis on teaching basic and similar questions.
(2)When solving problem segment and non-problem segment problems, teachers rely
heavily on procedural knowledge, direct calculation, formulas, or using operation symbols
to arrive at solutions. They focus helping the students understand the mathmathical logics
and concepts behind the solutions
(3) Teachers used various representations in the classroom to enable students to learn;
they liked to link the real-word situations to make a connection.
(4) Teachers spent more time introducing and practicing new content in order to impart
new knowledge. But in imparting new knowledge, they reviewed the old knowledge, so
that students could be consistent.
(5) 75% of time teachers interacted with students to enable students to participate in
learning.
