Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 心理與諮商學系碩士班 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to develop a mindfulness scale and investigate the relationship between factors of mindfulness, whether college students with different background have difference on the level of mindfulness, and the relationship between mindfulness and depression.
The researcher chose “present-moment awareness” and “acceptance” as two factors of the mindfulness scale. The pre-test mindfulness scale with 92 items was administered to a sample of 253 college students, and the exploratory factor analysis and item analysis were used to select items for the formal mindfulness scale. The result is a 30-item mindfulness scale with the “present-moment awareness” subscale of 16 items and the “acceptance” subscale of 14 items.
With a sample of 382 college students, the internal consistency Cronbach's α coefficient of the “present-moment awareness” subscale and the “acceptance” subscale were .916 and .859, respectively. The correlation between the “present-moment awareness” subscale and the “general awareness habit scale” is .610, and the correlation between the “acceptance” subscale and the “self-healing power scale” is .423, indicating good criteria-correlation validity for both subscales. Two instruments were used in this research: “the mindfulness scale” and “the Beck Depression Inventory-Second Edition”. Data were statistically analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results were as the following:
1. Male college students were statistically higher on the score of the “acceptance” subscale than female college students. College students with different age were not statistically different on the score of the “present-moment awareness” subscale and the “acceptance” subscale.
2. There was positive correlation between the “present-moment awareness” factor and the “acceptance” factor of mindfulness.
3. There was negative correlation between “present-moment awareness” and depression, and between “acceptance” and depression.
Lastly, based on the finding and conclusions of this study, the researcher proposed the application of this study on education and counseling, and recommendations for future researches.
