Further, Brahms arose as an anti-romanticist in romantic era; people gave him the very own classic imagine by describing phrase “A Classicist with romantic thought”. Yet the author also claims that the unique characteristic of Brahms, which is full of duality, such as traditional vs. modern, sensible vs. sensual, self-disciplined vs. unrestrained, self-confident vs. self-questioning, irritable vs. gentle, and serious vs. humorous. Among these contradictions, he freely wandered between the classicalism and the romanticism and captured the essence from both of them. This also makes Brahms’ belief in creation extended the dimension of the romanticism. 《Rhapsodies, Op 79》 in 1879’s, is a mature period of Brahms’ representative works, which can also be regard as dual tension-rich style music (the solid structure of the corresponding strict gorgeous sound). The author wants to get into his music atmosphere and expresses a deeper ideological atmosphere with a thick thought by the multiple-oriented, such as: Learning , spiritual qualities, characteristics and style of music and so on. This thesis contains six chapters . Chapter 1 introduced The research motivation and scope. Chapter 2 described Brahms’ biography and his works . The Chapter 3 focuses on the history of Rhapsody and the background of Brahms’ Rhapsody.
