Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 社會學習領域教學碩士學位學程 === 97 === This research was designed to study the practicability of utilizing international news discussion in the global event study among elementary school students; this global event study utilized international news in the form of newspaper, therefore designated “Newspaper in Education” (NIE). This research aimed to study not only the students’ attitude and performance, but also the trials and errors made by the educators in the implementation of NIE among Fifth Graders. The result of this research will be a useful reference to schools, educators and researchers for further related study.
The participants of this research included the educators and thirty-two Grade Five students from an elementary school in Da-An District, Taipei City. The researcher implemented NIE for twelve classes with total duration of eight weeks. The data collection in this research is through the means of observation, interviews and other supporting documentations.
The conclusion of this research is listed below.
1. The implementation of NIE in the global event study.
(1) The students confirmed that NIE helped them better understand the events discussed in the textbooks, and also believed NIE could help them acquire more knowledge than the textbooks.
(2) The students paid more attention to global events even after the termination of this research.
(3) The students were more interested in the discussion with events related to their daily life.
(4) The students and the participating educators all confirmed positively regarding the implementation of NIE in the global event study program.
2. The process of implementation of NIE in global event study.
(1) The students were more willing to participate and share their opinion in a smaller discussion group rather than a bigger one.
(2) The topics of study could take priority with easier adjustment without disrupting the ongoing agenda, and as the result, more practical for educators to implement.
(3) The students thoughts and receptions to the news events were influenced by traditional value and elders’ opinions.
This research will provide related suggestions based on the findings of the research, as references to educators and researchers for future study.
