Picture books are one of the literary works, which would make children happy to access to children’s literature. This research studies how to make children read happily, enjoy reading, cultivate interest in reading and develop a reading attitude and ability by using picture books in language teaching of low grades through literature analysis, content analysis of picture books and my teaching experiences on primary education to develop lasting self-learning abilities, which are emphasized in the capacity indicators of the grade 1-9 curriculum. This thesis include six chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction:Describe the research motivation and purpose, scope, methods and literature review. Chapter 2 Reading Teaching:Explore the meaning and importance of children’s reading and analyze the features and implementation points of the indicators of reading ability of low graders at elementary school. Also, summarize the relevant papers about the primary teaching of reading and teaching of picture book reading after the implementation of the grade 1-9 curriculum. Chapter 3 From picture books to reading teaching:Analyze the image presentation and verbal articulation in picture books and their relevance in books, and further explore their meanings in the primary low-grade reading. Chapter 4 The application of the picture book teaching in reading:Explore the methods that teachers could use picture books to guide the low grade reading and provide the teaching examples. Chapter 5 The effectiveness and value of the picture book teaching of reading:Discussion the incoperation of using the picture books at low-grade language teaching and the indicators of the first phase of reading ability set in the grade 1-9 curriculum. Chapter 6 Conclusion:Systematic summarize the integration and reflection of the analysis and discussion of the foregoing chapters. In this paper, through the integration, analysis and summary of the meaning of reading picture books, I aim to investigate the implication of picture book reading in teaching low-grade children’s reading, and hope to provide elementary school teachers in language teaching-related activities with the solid basis of theoretical and practical skills to develop the instruction of teaching for the primary low-grade reading, which can help children at low grade could read happily and enjoy reading.
