In our previous study, we used Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to induce osteogenesis in embryonic fibroblasts (NIH3T3) cells. The transplantation of PRP-treated NIH3T3 cells was able to induce osteogenesis in osteoporotic mouse model, OVX-SAMP8 for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. This study was published in the journal of nuclear medicine (I.F. 5.96). In this study, we used the same research platform to explore the osteogenetic potential of SKM8 water which was treated using quantum reaction steady technology (quantum persistent reflection, QPR) in both basic and clinical settings. In the basic research front, SKM8 water was used to treat bone precursor cells (NIH3T3) and the cell viability and differentiation were examined; SKM8 water did not effect cell proliferation but significantly induced osteogenesis as demonstrated by increased ALP staining. In animal experiments, osteoporotic OVX-SAMP8 mice received daily SKM8 treatment revealed significantly improved bone mineral density after a 4-month experimental period. In the clinical front, (the protocol approval, P94A-IRB), clinically confirmed osteoporotic patients (who previously suffered from polio) were selected for the evaluation of the osteogenic effect of SKM8. Patients received fixed amount of SKM8 water daily and bone mineral density was evaluated at different time points over a 4-month observation period. Patients who received SKM8 treatment demonstrated a gradual increase in bone mineral density when compared to the control arm. The data from this study provided strong experimental evidence for the usage of SKM8 water in the induction of osteogenesis at both cellular and animal levels. The potential usage of SKM8 water in the treatment of osteporosis in clinical setting could be further explored and its future usage in the treatment of osteoporotic patients appears to be promising.
