As foreign banks now may enjoy the national treatment, they enhance the wish to set up operating branches in China. The purpose of this study is to discuss motives for foreign banks entering the Chinese market, and what factors influence foreign banks’ activity in China. The empirical evidence shows when foreign bank’s asset scale is bigger, it has higher probability and possibility to enter China and to set up branches in China. If foreign bank’s capital adequacy ratio is higher, it has also a higher possibility to set up branches in China. Besides, when the foreign bank motherland subordinates the Asian countries, it has higher possibility to set up branches in China as well.
