In 1976, My impression to My Country was published. While 1979 the series of poems Soil was also published. The series of books not only portrayed the agricultural life in Taiwan’s rural area, but the feeling and hardship of the Taiwanese farmers. Moreover, Wu Cheng’s work showed his passion to this island, and his rustic words characterized the language particularly. Therefore it was worthy to study the value of his works. However, the main subject of this research can be divided into three categories. First the analysis and generalization between prose and verse. Second the collection of all database, information, and bibliography discussion. Finally intertextuality between prose and verse as a method. With the analysis of Wu Cheng’s work, we can obviously understand not only his writing background, but his viewpoint toward literature. In addition, this research also focused on Wu’s important subject, and paid much attention to the meaning and value of his work, which can be further discussed. To begin with, through the discussion and analysis Wu Cheng’s experiences and writing background, we can get a better and concrete understanding to his work. Second, this research discussed Wu Cheng’s viewpoint toward literature, and it analyzed the combination of literature and reality of our social environment. Furthermore, this research dealt with four main topics of laboring life, agricultural problems, rural figures, and rural spirit. Finally, this study was to analyzed Wu’s characteristic of language, such as Taiwanese (the dialect) style, the imagery toward life, and prospect on our hometown. By the mentioned-above reasons, the research was to discuss the features of rural country in Wu Cheng’s work. In sum up, only by writers representing their passion to their country, the change of our society, and contribution to literature can we discover magnificent works and deeply rooted and touched people’s heart. On the one hand, Wu Cheng’s witnessed the change of the era in our society. On the other hand, he recorded and reflected the reality of our society and relevant issues happened in Taiwan. Wu Cheng’s is a social writer more than a rural one, who wishes to awaken Taiwanese’s understanding and care to this island — Taiwan. For this purpose, we can find his passion, enthusiasm, and care to Taiwan, which is also the main purpose of this research.
