Further, to analysis the diversity between different background variable teachers. This study adopted the method of questionnaire survey. Through experts’ efficiency analysis, Study of Professional Knowledge and Competence of Specialty Teachers for the Classes of Mental Retardation in Vocational High Schools of Taipei City questionnaire was revised and then distributed. Through census, a total number of 82 vocational teachers were investigated. 68 copies of valid samples were retrieved, and the valid return rate was 82.9%. The collected data was processed with the software package SPSS 12.0 for Windows. Descriptive statistics were used. The main research findings are as follows: 1.The specialty teachers who perceive the actual condition of the professional knowledge and competence, professional knowledge and competence are above average degree. 2.The demand to pursue further education is approximately reach half the teachers. 3.The public school, female, 5-10 years seniority and qualifications in special education and vocational education teachers perceive higher professional knowledge and competence. 4.The private school, male, 0-2 year’s seniority and non-qualifications in special education teachers perceive higher demand to pursue further education. According to the main findings and the conclusions, suggestions are proposed for administrative organizations, centers for teaching training, vocational high schools and teachers. And it is hoped helpful in improving the preserves professional courses and in promoting the professional knowledge and competence, teaching quality and equipment of teachers.
