Therefore, many people have more requests for engine, not only save oil, but also reduce environmental pollution. For these requests, the key point is the wear of piston ring in the engine, the piston ring have many excellences, such as reduce the fuel consumption volume, sealing action and thermal conductivity, but the wear with cylinder liner, that have the serious influence to piston ring’s performance. The multilayer is deposited on piston ring and stainless steel by unbalance magnetron sputtering in this research, which design can reduce internal stress of diamond-like carbon coating and increase adhesion on the substrate effectively. The diamond-like carbon film and chromium containing diamond-like carbon on the final layer can increase wear resistance of piston ring, reduce wear rate of piston ring and extend life of piston ring. By tribology test (Pin-on-Disk), chromium containing diamond-like carbon film exhibit a low friction coefficient (μ=0.2),which is much lower than substrate (μ=0.814), and this film have better adhesion by indenter test. Finally, in order to effectively make the piston ring curved surface coating, the piston ring specimen will be put on the self-designed rotary holder mechanism, and then the multilayer of good wear resistant will be deposited on the piston ring curved surface. The wear resistance of piston ring increases, because the multilayer coated on the curved surface of piston ring, which will promote engine’s life and reduce it’s fuel consumption volume, then generate energy saving and carbon reduction.
