R&D manager may be quit or reassign by poor performance and may be promote or head-hunting by excellent performance. However, the reasons for R&D manager turnover are not limited to firm performance. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between various reasons for R&D manager turnover and firms performance. The sample of this study was selected from listed electronic companies in Taiwan from year 2000 to year 2007. The proxies of firm performance are financial and non-financial performance. The reasons for R&D manager turnover are divided into eight categories, including quit, reassign, promote, head-hunting, organization restructuring, death, retire and others. Non-voluntary turnover including quit and reassign and voluntary turnover including promote and head-hunting. The result indicates that the non-voluntary turnover of R&D manager associate with poor return on assets and return on R&D and quality of patent. On the other hand, voluntary turnover of R&D manager associate with excellent ROA and number of patent.
