AD is characterized pathologically by the deposition of extracellular senile plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles. The aggregation of Aβ1-42 has been shown to induce lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, neurotoxicity, and reactive oxygen species generation in neurons. Screened twenty Chinese herb medicines and tested their effect on anti-Aβ induced neurotoxicity. Among them, Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (枳實) showed protect against Aβ1-42-induced neurotoxicity in culture PC-12 cells. Further analysis only Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (枳實) plant duded extract showed that Fructus Aurantii Immaturus (枳實) does not inhibit either aggregation or free radical induced by Aβ1-42, instead it promotes the growth of PC-12 cells.
