The primary aim of this study is to determine the factors influencing performance of student teams. Developing two models: Teamwork quality and Team setting based on literature reviews of teams in workplace, the study attempts to confirm the effect of these two constructs on Student teams’ performance in the terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Quantitative research methodology with several statistical data analysis methods such as Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis were employed to analyze the sample of 320 project-team students studying in Southern Taiwan University. The research findings indicated that six facets from Teamwork quality construct (communication, coordination, balance of member contributions, mutual support, effort, and cohesion) and four facets from Team setting constructs (Resource acquisition measuring by big five personality traits, goal setting, task planning, and feedback & appraisal) all have significant and positive impact on student teams’ performance. Teams in workplace and student teams basically have similar determinants of high performance, foster student teams to have higher performance may lead to more successful projects of teams in workplace.
