In other words, Menotti’s “The Eternal Prisoner,” “The Idle Gift,” “The Longest Wait,” “My Ghost,” and “The Swing.” Major topics included in this thesis are: (a) an introduction of Menotti’s life, professional career, and musical style; (b) a description of the characteristics of the five art songs; (c) an explanation of the meanings of the songs based on critical analyses of their musical forms, and (d) recommendations for ways to render the songs. �e Program 1.
